The Pegasus Story
Healing & Growth with Horses
in Western Colorado
Pegasus Equine Therapy is a safe and healing environment where children, youth and adults who are experiencing challenges in their daily lives can obtain the tools they need to live a full and productive life. The horse is instrumental in facilitating these positive changes for people through the horse-human connection.
Utilizing the EAGALA model of a licensed mental health therapist, an equine specialist and horses, we are providing professional and quality mental health services and personal growth opportunities through Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP).
Equine Assisted Therapy
The Pegasus team is trained in the EAGALA model (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) and utilize Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) in our work with people which focuses on a variety of mental health and human development needs.
Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is also an integral part of EAGALA and our program with a focus on learning and educational goals. Why do we partner with horses? Like humans, horses are social animals with defined roles within their herds. Given the fact that they are prey animals, horses are keenly sensitive to their environment. They have distinct personalities… and, most important, they often reflect back to us the issues in our lives.
The Eagala Model is so effective because it embraces the science that humans learn best by doing. The model prescribes a hands-on approach where clients are given the space to project and analyze their situations, make connections, and find their own solutions. Since the solutions are personally experienced in conjunction with intellectual understanding, they tend to be deeper, more profound, and longer lasting.
Activities with the horses are on the ground as there is no riding involved in this equine work. There also is no requirement that participants have previous horsemanship skills.
